Buy Indie Day

May 1st has been declared Buy Indie Day. The idea is buy one book, paperback, hardcover, audiobook, whatever works for you, at your independent bookstore.

Writer Kevin Guilfoile hit the nail on the head when he posted:

"There's an opportunity here to make something very cool happen-near simultaneous, informal meet-ups of readers and writers in independent bookstores all over the country—and it can happen with practically no effort at all."

You can RSVP, invite friends and discuss with other indie shoppers on Buy Indie Day's Facebook page, and find an indie bookstore near you on the Canadian Booksellers Association's site

We'd love to see this idea expanded. Try to "put your money where your house is" tomorrow and see how many locally owned places you can support. Where you will be buying indie on May 1st?

For all you early risers and CBC fans out there

There's not a lot in this world that's getting me out of bed at 4am. My sleep is very important to me, and truly, to the people around me. However, Thursday May 7 I will be up and at 'em at 4am.

Chat Noir Books is excited to announce that CBC Radio will be broadcasting Morning North with Markus Schwabe from the store. From 5:30am to 8:30am on May 7 we will be CBC central. Drop by and see us if you're up - It may be your only chance ever to see us wake and active at that time of the day!

4pm-6pm

About the Book
This book chronicles a two year trip across America. Mike and Karin Gelinas left the comforts of home to travel in a 35 foot motorhome to visit America. What they discover is not only the every day attractions like Disneyworld and New Orleans, but the "off the beaten path" attractions that probably would not make it in most books.

The Hunger Games

This kept me up very very late last night!!! I ordered a whole bunch of them this morning so we'll have some in stock shortly. I got completely sucked in and had to keep reading!

About The Book:

COULD YOU SURVIVE ON YOUR OWN, IN THE WILD, WITH EVERYONE FIGHTING AGAINST YOU?

Twenty- four are forced to enter. Only the winner survives.

In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by twelve outlying districts. Each year, the districts are forced by the Capitol to send one boy and one girl between the ages of twelve and eighteen to participate in the Hunger Games, a brutal and terrifying fight to the death – televised for all of Panem to see.

Survival is second nature for sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen, who struggles to feed her mother and younger sister by secretly hunting and gathering beyond the fences of District 12. When Katniss steps in to take the place of her sister in the Hunger Games, she knows it may be her death sentence. If she is to survive, she must weigh survival against humanity and life against love.
