New Magazines

NEW THIS MONTH

We are now carring Owl and ChickaDEE magazines!!

Owl Magazine is a fun and informative magazine for kids ages 9 to 13. OWL is packed with facinating facts, amazing articles and special features on Hot Topics, Science Up Close, Weird Zone, and Talk About It. Each issue of OWL includes puzzles, quizzes, contests, and the science behind how things work. With its breaking news stories and mind-boggling puzzles, Owl Magazine is a thought-provoking and entertaining resource to help kids grow.

ChickaDEE Magazine is a discovery magazine for kids ages 6 to 9 full of interactive games, hands-on science experiments, amazine photos, illustrations and stories. ChickaDee is designed to educate and entertain kids and parents with its bright, colorful pages, age-appropriate themes, and clear text and lively visuals for young readers.

An Evening With Joseph and Amanda Boyden


Next month Joseph Boyden and his wife Amanda Boyden will be up North lending their voices to help Aboriginal youth in the North.

The event will take place at the Porcupine campus of Northern College on Thursday, June 4, 2009. This will get started around 7:00pm, tickets are $30 each and available here at Chat Noir Books in New Liskeard. There is also a Door Prize "2 tickets to see a Tragically Hip Concert including air fare and accommodations!"


All proceeds from this event will be directed toward Aboriginal youth education at Joseph's request, the Northern College Foundation offer burseries and The Four Seasons Working Group, which is committed to youth mentorship within education, industry and communities.

Coming Events


We have a few great events happening at the store in the next few weeks. First off if you have been listening to CBC you know that tomorrow morning CBC Radio One will be hosting Morning North with Markus Schwabe from the store. Jenn and I are really excited, though not so excited about our wake up time.

Also Hap Wilson has a new book out called Trails and Tribulations: Confessions of a Wilderness Pathfinder. Hap will be here in the store on Saturday May 23rd along with Illustrator Ingrid Zschogner and the Band Headframe! The show will start at 7:30 pm on Saturday May 23rd.

Headframe will be opening up the evening with some great tunes, then Hap will talk about his new book. We will have books artwork and Cd's all available to be signed by the artists later on in the evening!

Sweet Sounds of the 70's Canceled

So just a quick update, I guess the "Smooth Sweet Sounds of the 70's" has been canceled.

Punch Me Hard it's Saturday night!

There are two great shows happening at the Classic Theatre this weekend! It is always surprising the quality of shows that the Classic Theatre is able to bring into our area!

Friday nights shows is the Smooth Sweet Sounds of the 70's - Soft Rock / Roots on Friday. This show featuring an all-star multi-artist show featuring some of the finest in 1970's soft rock hits performed by some of today's finest roots musicians:

JASON FOWLER (acclaimed guitarist and songwriter)
GREGORY HOSKINS (former frontman of the Can/ Pop hit group The Stickpeople)

Saturday night our very own Mark Bradford will be opening up for Joel Plaskett!! You can check out Mark's music under "Punch Me Hard at iacmusic.com.
